Ooops, my brain is full … need to buy a bigger one !

Posted in gear by scott on the May 31st, 2007

Since humans only use a rather small partition ( ;-) ) of their brain for daily surival routines, skills, emotions and memories, perhaps the remaining can be used as flash memory …

Your Mouse Cursor

Posted in comic by otaku-oni on the May 31st, 2007

We tend to oversimplify daily life and always have a very basic top level understanding of things going on in the world around us (information hiding).

How many of us have actually took the time and saw what is behind the mouse cursor we use everyday?

Like many items in life I am sure you overlooked the details and taken it for granted. Click here to see what actually goes on:

aircarNot terribly excited about the design or impressed by the speed or anything like that … but it’s always good to see new alternative sources of energy. Therefore .. here comes .. the Air Car from MDI. Green Yahoo has some comments on this thing.

Posted in software by scott on the May 30th, 2007

Novell’s SEC filing reveals details of the company’s controversial agreement with Microsoft. A previously unknown condition of the deal could mean that “clone” programs like Wine and OpenOffice are excluded from patent protection because they mimic Microsoft software.

Microsoft Surface

Posted in gear by sandro on the May 30th, 2007

surface map appSome sexy innovation .. this time coming from .. er .. Microsoft! It’s something that we already saw being done on YouTube - but now Microsoft has a press release about it and some exceptional clips.

The launch of Microsoft Surface marks the beginning of a new technology category and a user-interface revolution. Surface, Microsoft’s first surface computer, provides effortless interaction with digital content through natural hand gestures, touch and physical objects. Surface computing breaks down traditional barriers between people and technology, changing the way people interact with all kinds of everyday information — from photos to maps to menus.

Bla bla bla .. just check out the Microsoft Surface page. The future looks bright and the end of the world has been postponed by a decade or two. Should be available in Winter 2007 (which I guess would be somewhere around the end of this year).

the teledildonics are coming

Posted in gear by sandro on the May 29th, 2007

There is strong evidence that the future of sex toys lies in open source. I can’t imagine myself running something like the following to upgrade my little friend’s firmware:

svn checkout http://virtualblowjob.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ virtualblowjob

Or maybe I just did. Either way, the point is.. The Register have an article about a symposium on Sex Hack. Enjoy ;)

Update: Ok .. the project does exist already and its at the below link (qDot’s comment). Just for the record .. to get the code the command is:

svn checkout http://pystim.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ pystim

And once again … enjoy!

That’s exactly what Hasbro is trying to market to your local 24/7. This new toothbrush will play a 2 minute song while you’re brushing your teeth.

News at Seven

Posted in the net by sandro on the May 28th, 2007

An automated news service, able to construct news based on blog articles, video and images taken from sites such as Flickr. This is a pretty cool concept (though not new), and its being worked on by Northwestern University’s InfoLab. More can be seen at the official site which unfortunately seems a bit dated (today’s news is marked as 22nd May).

GPS for home use only - WTF?!

Posted in gear by deepdive on the May 27th, 2007

OK so you’re looking around for really useful gadgets which you know you don’t really need, but tend to want to buy anyway…. and you come across this GPS receiver on Ebay. On first glance you think OK cool just plug this thing to my PDA/laptop and go for a drive. But then you are struck with this label on the device saying: “For Home or Office use” - WTF???

OK so if a GPS satellite signal is not usually reachable indoors and I ‘cannot’ take this device out of my home/office building, then what is exactly the purpose of this unit? Guess this would be extremely useful in low-visibility scenarios such as when I come home drunk and can’t find the light switch. Using this wonderful device I could actually track my position with relation to the bathroom and find my way in the dark! Pity I can’t get a GPS signal in the corridor!
