world ugliest dog

Posted in art or lack of by robert on the June 28th, 2007

as this is my last day at work and got nothing better to do, after reading Donald’s post I thought of searching for the world ugliest dog. Last week me and Sandro have seen a documentary, and there are competitions and yes, they exist for real :| people even bread them to try and produce the world’s ugliest dog. enjoy ;)

You need a description?

Is it a bird, is it a horse, no it’s a dog - the world’s largest one

Hercules

Hercules was recently awarded the honorable distinction of Worlds Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds. With “paws the size of softballs” [Sandro-> do softballs remind you of something???] (reports the Boston Herald), the three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed’s standard 200lb. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet.

Check this phone candid out . An American Indian calls an Irish about his child’s birth certificate and the legitimacy of his fatherhood. Talk about two cultures clashing.

the exception to the rule

Posted in IRL, local by sandro on the June 26th, 2007

There’s always an exception to the rule. ENN (also covered by The Register) has published an article about how new EU countries are enjoying good times in IT. The part that interested me is ..

The report found that recent economic indicators provide strong evidence that EU membership has been good for the economic development of the 10 states that joined in 2004. According to Eurostat, with the exception of Malta, the new members had GDP growth rates well above the EU15 average of 1.5 percent in 2005 and 2.6 percent last year. Both Estonia and Latvia have seen their GDP growth go beyond 10 percent, putting them among the fastest-growing economies in the world.

Guess there are various reasons behind this ;)

books for geeks

Posted in art or lack of, the net by sandro on the June 25th, 2007

list3n has tons of lists - amongst them you’ll find .. books for geeks! How many of these did you read? I’ve been suspiciously eying “Selected Stories of Philip K. Dick by Philip K. Dick“. Would probably be particularly interesting.

Looks like there’s some catching up I need to do.

How a six-month-old startup got bought by Google

Posted in IRL, google, software, the net by sandro on the June 25th, 2007

From The Startup Game:

Three months ago, I met the two startup founders of Zenter, Wayne Crosby and Robby Walker, and blogged about how they wanted their online version of PowerPoint to get bought by Google. I listen to a lot of young entrepreneurs who desperately want to get bought by big companies like Google (GOOG), Microsoft or eBay, but Crosby and Walker actually made it a reality. On Tuesday, Zenter, an interactive presentation software, was acquired by Google for an undisclosed sum as mentioned in my colleague Erick Schonfeld’s blog.

Expand your mind folder

Posted in the net by mike on the June 24th, 2007

I’ve already refreshed Gmail 17 times in the last 5 minutes, but nobody loves me. Google reader is so full I don’t know from where to start. I’ve played all the 67 funny videos I’ve received in the past week and the now I’m finding miniclips boring.

Does this scenario sound familiar?

Well, today I’ve setup a new bookmark folder in my toolbar called “Expand your mind“. This folder contains a list sites to help make something useful of otherwise wasted time, i.e. learn something. Presently this folder contains the following links:-

MIT OpenCourseWare
A free open educational resource for self-learners around the world
Best Online Documentaries
Ranging from Anthropology to Technology with lots of stuff in between. These are BBC quality documentaries not amateur internet crap.
Google Tech Talks
Google technology presentations for Google employees. Can it get any geekier than that?
University Podcasts and Lecturers
Open content from top US Universities.

flipbook! deluxe

Posted in art or lack of, the net by sandro on the June 23rd, 2007

Benetton Play! brings you the flipbook! deluxe. Basically its a flash site which allows you to create your own flipbook like animations. You can also publish your own animations .. or so I was told. But instead I came across this error after I fokking spent 20 minutes on a stupid animation.
