This sounds like from Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, but apparently by observing the quantum state of the universe, we are unwillingly playing dice, and forcing multistate quantum systems to one state, thus setting the outcome of a quantum event!
Just observing the dark energy in the 1998 supernova explosion might have speeded up the decay of the universe…
